The Reykjavík Feminist Film Festival is partnering up once again with Alliance Française in Reykjavík and IFcinéma, for its event highlighting pioneer women filmmakers. This year’s edition will focus on director Germaine Dulac (1882-1942) and her movie La Souriante Madame Beudet. “The screening will be followed by a discussion animated by Clarisse Charrier with Dulac’s specialists Tami Williams and Clément Lafite, co-author of Germaine Dulac: What is Cinema? (2019).
Tami Williams is Associate Professor of Film Studies and English at University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and the author of Germaine Dulac: A Cinema of Sensations (2014), co-editor of Provenance and Early Cinema (2020), Germaine Dulac: What is Cinema? (2019), Global Cinema Networks (2018), Performing New Media, 1895-1915 (2014), and editor of The Moving Image, 16.1: Early Cinema and the Archives (2016). She is the president of Domitor – the International Society for the Study of Early Cinema.
Clément Lafite is a film archivist at the Cineteca Nazionale – Centro Sperimentale di Cinematografia in Rome, Italy. He co-curated the publication of What is Cinema? (Light Cone editions, 2019) and was in charge of the reconstruction and presentation of Âmes de Fous (Germaine Dulac, 1918) in collaboration with EYE Filmmuseum and Cinémathèque française.
Clarisse Charrier is a young French filmmaker relocated to Iceland, focused on documentary and animation. She is involved in the Reykjavík Feminist Film Festival since 2020.
